Weekend Fuel: Paris Fashion Week

“Daring a little bit more. Losing control…a little." That's fashion designer Dries Van Noten describing his creative process for his spring 2017 collection this week at Paris Fashion Week. No doubt the pressure on a designer at this show is enormous and the creative process leading up to it messy and emotional. But the results can be magical.Each year there is something visually inspiring to take from Paris Fashion Week. From Dior's lilac dome in 2015 (created by the amazing international event producers, Bureau Betak) to Van Noten’s spring/summer 2015 show at Paris Fashion Week (pictured below). The mossy carpet was designed by Argentine artist Alexandra Kehayoglou.To present his latest collection this year at Paris Fashion Week, Van Noten partnered with the Japanese flower artist Azuma Makoto, sending a series of floral-print garments down a runway flanked by Azuma’s icy sculptures.Azuma used nearly 100 types of rare flowers to create 23 different arrangements. They were then placed them in water, frozen and shipped from Belgium to Paris in refrigerated cars. “The flowers are even more beautiful in the blocks of ice, as they interact with air bubbles and light,” Azuma told the New York Times.Photos Molly SJ Lowe
